I saw another documentary on the Andrea Dorea sinking (which agreed that
the Dorea's captain had been railroaded). This one didn't mention
Lloyds, but did mention that both ships were ultimately owned by the
same company (apparently the companies that owned each ship were both
subsidiaries of the same larger company), and the claim was made that
the uber-parent company realized that no matter who was at fault, it
would get a black eye. Since everyone was accusing the Dorea's captain,
it just let him take the blame to get the matter over with.
