The Royal Society has made its its digital archive accessible free of
charge until 1 February 2009. To use the archive, which contains the
Royal Society's publications since the foundation of Philosophical
Transactions in 1665, go to
http://journals.royalsociety.org/home/main.mpx
The archive is normally only available to subscribers as part of one of
the Royal Society's 'packages' of journals.

Last time such an offer was made, many Navlist members took advantage of it
to download to their collections. Now is an opportunity to top up any gaps.
There's a wealth of stuff on early navigation and instruments in
Philosophical Transactions, and then Proceedings of the Royal Society.
By the way, Phil. Trans. stuff is available (permanently, I hope) on
Gallica, the website ot the Bibliotheque Nationale Francaise; That's the
original Gallica; I haven't yet succeeded with Gallica2, the updated
version being trialled.
