Hi Robin
Just a theory, with nothing to back it up, but here goes...
Due to the immense amount of labor required to accurately draw approx 9000 marks, along the both scales in total, I would expect that all of the HR1 And MHR1 scales to be the same image. It seems unreasonable to re-draw the master image when the one in front of you will work. I would even go so far as to suspect that post war scales are the same. We would need to just observe those special artifacts and errors in marks on another device to be sure. No need to examine the entire scale.
Perhaps there is another device accessible to the list?
Brad
Brad,
Exhausting indeed! I had not anticipated that there would be this level of variation through the scales. It will make programming them in PostScript a bit more challenging. The MHR1 scales stand in contrast to the Bygrave markings for which a given subdivision (1d, 30', 10' etc.) seems to have the same length regardless of where it appears along the scale. Thanks for your efforts in completing the document. I think we now have a quite valuable record of the details of the device,
Regards,
Robin
