Re: Running down an Astro-Position Line

Can someone  explain the meaning of "running down a position line". To me it can have one of two meanings. Firstly in the Sumner sense a navigatior  is travelling  on the same azimuth as the position line. This Sumner did and he arrived at Smalls light.

Alternatively there is what I think of as the Chichester method. The navigator is travelling at right angles to the position line. When ho = hc he knows the azimuth of his destination. This Chichester did and arrived at Norfolk Island.

Maybe I am being pedantic or perhaps I am confused?
