I tried this last year after pouring a basement (so I had two reasonably
sized walls free of any obstructions). The laser spot was too large, the
wall not flat enough, etc. to measure errors in the fraction of a minute
range, but it was fun to see just how precise these instruments are on a
distance scale where you have everyday experience.
