According to the Introduction in my copy of "CELESTIAL NAVIGATION WITH THE
S Table, Mike Pepperday, 1992, Paradise Cay Publications, they are a
derivative of H.O. 211. The author modified the tables for simplification
and reduced entries.
To quote:
"...The S Table is also 9 pages tabulating to 1'. Ordinary LHA has
replaced "meridian angle" . This obviated the lengthy rules for meridian
angle, gave coverage of full 360 degrees, allowed the "A" and "B" headings
to be discarded, reduced the column headings by one third and simplified
other rules.
A decimal point has been introduced into the numbers for readability. The
pattern central to the work sheet is that used by Ageton."
The S Table is also intended as a direct alternative to a calculator.
