    Here's some fun from the ESA talking about the virtues of the Galileo satellite navigation system and how it might have helped a famous Homeric hero. Naturally celestial navigation would have fit the bill, but the article is amusing anyway:

    For NavList fun, what would be the minimum level of navigation technology (from what date in later history) that would have gotten the wanderer home efficiently?

    And here's an article (free, NYT gift article link) that has me wondering: are sextants ferrets?
