It’s a bit late but I ran across a copy of the July/August 2005 Saudi Aramco World that covers the Indian Ocean and Global Trade. This has articles and a timeline from the early BC’s up to the 1800’s and includes the supply and demands that drove the trade as well as the monsoon winds that made the trips to and from the Indian Ocean possible.

This magazine has an economic and political purpose but apparently a big budget that allows exceptional reporting along with free distribution to qualified individuals and to educators as well as free copies online at the above link. (I have no association other than interest.)
