    "Say Osh Eww" Canada

I used to listen to CHU Canada on shortwave. The French announcement of the call sign sounds like "say osh eww", BTW. Can someone give me a 'practical navigator' history of this time signal? When was it widely available as a global or at least North Atlantic and North Pacific time signal for celestial navigators.

How often would the signal fail to reach a navigator out on the open ocean ---? Could I have gone ten days withut hearing accurate time. or mre like two days?? Also, what did they annunce as the time NAME before it was UTC? Did they say GMT in the 1960s??

Thank you to everyone in this NavList group for all your fascinating posts!!

    Steve B.
