If you visit the Churchill, Manitoba region of Canada, you will find a spot where the British Navy installed a very large iron ring into the rock for mooring ships. This was done around the 1700's. When it was constructed, it was, according to our guide, right at the shore. Now it is a few hundred yards away from the shore. The isostatic rebound in the Hudson Bay area is quite dramatic. I wish I could remember more details about the spot but it has been close to 30 years since last I visited it. If my memory serves me right, the iron mooring ring is near Fort Prince of Wales, which is across the Churchill River from the modern community. The Fort itself is well worth the visit.
