Re: Seeking advice for bubble repair on a Plath aircraft octant
    From: Werner Luehmann

Thanks to Bill's instructions (by private mail) I was able to "re-
create" a usable bubble. Obviously it is still enough fluid in the
system after 65 years or so. I am of course keen to learn how the
sextant is disassembled (and vice versa). One day I will need that
    knowledge.

Thank you to the Ken and Alex advising as well.

the Russian IMS 3 octant. The fluid used in this aircraft octant was
definitely refined ethyl alchohol (the same sort of alcohol that is used as a
social lubricant). As it is clearly derived from the Plath SOLD octant, the
latter almost certainly used alcohol too. I will try to post instructions and
pictures to describe how to remove the bubble assembly and refill it on my
blog (www.sextantbook.com) sometime in the next few days.
