As I replied to an earlier post a short while ago I was reminded that there are so many people looking in on the various subjects here and perhaps someone might just find the attached interesting.
Let me state that I am not putting the chronometer up for sale here – it was an idea I had about a year ago that has since gone out of my head. The attached was sent off to various auction houses but I never followed up with any of them. So apologies that I attach that introductory letter as was then written – I really am too lazy to rewrite it again. The information it contains may be of interest to some however.
Odd how things show up from time to time and for me this instrument of Navigation was a ‘nice find’. What I personally did find very interesting was the whole story of the Carmania and its action in the 1st world war, 100 years ago. For those of you so inclined I would recommend reading “The ship that hunted itself” by Colin Simpson (first published 1977). You may find a second hand copy floating about somewhere.
Kinch.
