Hi,
Here are some pictures of the AQU-1/a "in hand".
This sextant was on EBAY for about a month. Curiosity finally got the best of me.
There is a contract specification for this sextant on line but it does not indicate its application. It appears to be a USN procurement. It was meant for a permanent station somewhere, maybe an observation blister? I am only speculating but I don't think it was meant to be used on a high altitude aircraft like a B-52. Maybe the big N class airships the Navy was flying '55-'62? Those seldom climbed above 5000 feet.
I hope to find out how it was meant to be mounted (optical dome up or sideways?), put some power to it and see how the optical train and display works.
Best regards,
Kevin
