With respect to museums picking up rare items, which never really caught on. There must be countless examples, but one classic, which will interest NavList readers is the Sperry aircraft sextant. Being a gyroscope producing company, they naturally chose a gyro for the artificial horizon, and of course, one example ended up in The Smithsonian. https://www.si.edu/object/sextant-sperry-gyro:nasm_A19650046000 If I’d had one, I’d have highlighted the obvious ‘spaceman face’ in white.
