Visually testing collimation deflection on a Davis Mark 3 ghost ring at 60 degrees altitude in an artificial horizon has the shifting of sun images at about 1/8 th of a solar diameter. The same test using an improvised ghost ring on a C&P with a whole horizon has the shift at about 1/3 rd of a solar diameter. The C&P with a x4 optic has the shift at about 1/10 th of a solar diameter with the sun images looking fuzzy at the objective edge (a tell on collimation error).
So use extra effort to center field an observation when using a whole horizon .
