Tami Oldham made a remarkable journey sailing a crippled 44 foot sloop using a spinnaker pole as a jury rig mast. Her memoir " Red Sky In Morning" did not specify the sextant that was aboard but she was able to determine latitude by LAN and then found her watch so was able to then determine longitude. Her celestial was confirmed to be good by the fishing boat that towed her into Hilo.
