Mark,
There is the option of using a small "C" clamp as a jury rig until a better fix can be done. No need to put off sextant practice for a simple failure like this. You can also just use the sextant as is without scope for Sun, Moon, Venus, and Jupiter observations.

I have a 1970's sextant (Simex Mariner- made by Tamaya) that has a broken part and I would like to see if you have a replacement. The tightening knob post which holds the telescope ring arm to the sextant frame has sheared off. Now I cannot mount my telescopes or even the ring. It is a complex bit of engineering with differing threads, and set screws which prevent jury-rigging a fastener (not that I would desire to do so). I can add an image to illustrate. If you have such a part, please let me know and we can make a deal.
Thank you,
Mark Miller
