It could have been a C-141 B. During the '80s and early '90s I flew many "special" missions call sign SAM, not the usual MAC.
Flew into Philipians, Japan & Korea, Hawaii, Pago Pago, Canton, Roatunga, NZ, Aulstralia, etc. We refuled often and had the range to fly from Sydney to Hawaii.
