No, this could not have happened, as I use a calculator that has the nautical almanac programmed in. All "reduction" is done in software, and I have been using this software for years and I have compared it to the printed almanac and it is in full agreement. We took into account our height above the water, even measured the temperature and checked the pressure so as to have a more accurate correction for refraction. The calculator has a built-in clock and that clock was set to GPS time right before the sites were taken. The date was certainly correct. -----Original Message----- From Navigation Mailing List [mailto:NAVIGATION-L@LISTSERV.WEBKAHUNA.COM]On Behalf Of Steven Wepster Sent: Friday, June 22, 2001 1:27 AM To: NAVIGATION-L@LISTSERV.WEBKAHUNA.COM Subject: Re: Sextant accuracy with short distance to horizon Dear Dan, Concerning your repeaterd error of 68': might that be a systematic error in the reduction? E.g., you've opened the almanac on the wrong page... That's surely not meant as an insult. It happens to us all once in a while (or am I unique in this respect?) _Steven
