Hi Frank, > Since we've established that you and I have nearly > identical cameras, of course now I want a bracket just like this. I'd be happy to send you a couple (and to other list members too, so long as I'm not deluged with requests, which seems unlikely). Just send me a mailing address. > You own a 3d printer, I take it? Yes, it's a MakerBot Replicator, which I gather is now several generations old (their Replicator 2X is the rough current equivalent). I think there are more cost-effective printers on the market now. The material is ABS plastic, the same stuff they make Lego pieces from. It's reasonably hard and stiff, though not as stiff as metal of course. The CAD model was beefed up in a few places relative to my metal models (existing sextant scopes) to try to compensate. > Then there's this nifty all-natural product > made from sliced tree trunks. I believe there is filament for 3D printers that is wood-dust-filled and results in objects that feel like wood. No grain yet---the texture is something like MDF---but give the printer people a few years. What? You meant an actual chunk of hardwood? Somehow that seems like cheating :-). Cheers, Peter
