With the looming outage of modern technology a patent on your eye cup might lead you to a hundredaire😇
Stability depends on the situation. I often brace against the mast. But in pitching conditions that can catapult you overboard. I like your eye cup. I push the sextant against my face but again in confused seas that can lead to bruises. I also keep my elbows against my chest.
