Thanks Peter, you raised some technicalities that I did not think about. There is enough mirror left, its just very distracting looking at the failing mirror.
The job of removing the mirror that is epoxied in will be a challenge, and the subsequent alignment as you have suggested will be a challenge. The glue drying and contracting might be another issue. I have ordered some UV set epoxy to see how quickly it sets to enable locking in the mirror with correct alignment.
I will try very thin solar mirror film and see how that goes. If it does result in errors It will be easy enough to remove.
