I received this message on my website. Since I'm no expert on sextant restoration, and since it's a popular concern, I'm opening it up for general discussion...
"Frank, any suggestions on re-silvering the mirrors of a Kelvin Hughes "Mate" sextant, circa 1965. Thanks, Sam"
I'm planning to try something today with a solution using a new product that may work and may be a reasonable solution. I'll post tomorrow with some trial results.
One little note: someone is almost certain to post a comment quoting an old navigation manual, like Bowditch, from the 19th century. That's fine for historical reference, but if you have not actually applied a historical method and done so successfully, please make sure that you say so explicitly. Apart from that, this is a common concern with old sextants, so let's hear some creative solutions, semi-solutions, half-baked ideas, too! ;-)
