    George,

I have tried a few dip short of the horizon sights in the past and got quite reasonable results. I note in your memo that you quote Bowditch 1977 in the references. Presumably this is because the formula given in Bowditch 2002 and 2019 is unnecessarily complicated. It involves an arctangent where none is needed. I submitted this when they were requesting comments for the 2019 but clearly they weren't really interesting in hearing from the hoi polloi. I put an update on Navlist here http://fer3.com/arc/imgx/Bowditch-2002-Errors-and-(In)actions.pdf but cannot find the the post to which it was attached.

Finally instead of tables it's possible to construct a nomogram that gives the same information http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Nomogram-for-Dip-Short-Horizon-Stuart-mar-2018-g41647

    Regards,
    Robin
