I have generally used 2 easy methods to give me a rough estimate of LD for pre-setting sextant.
1) Eyeball the LD angle with outstretched arms as per advice from john Karl page 84.
2) Prior to going to sea minus internet connection, I print out my own version of a pre-1912 Almanac, using Frank's excellent predictor for the time I am away. Fairly easy to interpolate approximate LD between the 3 hourly UTCs. Albeit these are "cleared" LD, not what you and sextant see, but usually close enough for rough ,pre-set ballpark.
Happy lunatics.
