I'm interested in hearing from members of this list about their usage of
sextants in coastal piloting.

Most traditional coastal piloting texts still include some explanation
of distance off by vertical sextant angles, horizontal sextant angle
fixes and related applications.

In an era where an increasingly small number of even offshore boats are
carrying sextants, is anybody still actively navigating inshore using a
sextant? If so, under what conditions?

If you are a navigation instructor, are you teaching these techniques?
Why or why not? If you are, what's the feedback from your students? Do
they see value in this?
