Sextants' paint color?

Hello.
I'm restoring an old C&P clone that was given the SNO-T name.
As you may surely know - the "T" letter there denotes the sextant's adaptation to the tropical conditions, so on newer SNO-T sextants the paint is "metallic", i.e. more reflective supposedly to make it less susceptible to direct Sun light. I have a FREIBERGER which is also painted "metallic".
However most sextants I saw on pictures are either black of military-green (as my SNO-T is). Why is that? A tradition? Some [weird] aesthetics?
