I have been thinking about noon sights.
From the Earth's perspective, the Sun rotates in a circle on the galactic sphere. But what is the shape of the Earth's course in one day from the perspective of one location on the surface of the Earth? If you could see through the Earth (as you stood on its surface), would the Sun circumscribe a circle?
