Sean,
I, too, have had that (Android) app installed for a couple of years. It's fun. It also includes "local apparent solar" as a time option, so for fans of sundials or sextant "time sights", you can check your work or do some planning before sights. The app's primary display is sidereal time, which, yes indeed, is the same angle as LHA Aries but a celestial navigation enthusiast may not find it so, since sidereal time is expressed in hours rather than degrees. Same thing, different units. Have you seen an option in there that I've missed that converts to degrees? It's not a big deal to multipy by 15° per hour, but if the app does this itself, so much the better. Note that this app's use of NTP is nothing extraordinary. It's just the standard time synchronization code used by nearly all time-sensitive software today. Incidentally, for any would-be app developers out there, creating an equivalent to this app that uses navigation terminology and displays LHA Aries (sidereal time in degrees) would be a nice first project.
