That sounds... odd. How did you reach this conclusion? How did you decide that your sextant "wasn't quite vertical" in your "AH sights"? Can you tell us what these sights looked like when you took them? That is, when you brought the direct image of the Sun to the reflected image of the Sun, how were the two Suns arranged visually in the field of view as you were making the contact in these sights? And what about this led you to deduce that this had something to do with your sextant being vertical or not?

You might also look into reversing the polarity of the AH flow. Also consider replacing the self-sealing stem bolts. Those are often a source of trouble. ;)
