I think some of this goes back to an earlier discussion of definitions. Define a time sight. An LOP requires time. So the Lunar can be used to update the clock required to get the LOP via Saint Hilliard (19 Century).

Andres,
Thank you for your reply. I have read a lot on lunars and have tried several ( not very well ) but my question remains: Must the time derived from a luner always be used with a time sight?
Navigators ( and NavList members ) have always mixed and matched methods from different times. We use a 18th C. instrument - sextant- with a 21st C. cell phone to draw a LOP ( 19th C. ) onto a chart ( ~17th C. ).
If I lost GMT and had to get the time from a luner it seems that the more moderen LOP would be better than a time sight. I may be wrong.
Thanks. John H.
