[Bill Ritchie's] Astron.html astro calculator could solve a problem for [many]. It's a single web page stacked with resources. Search for, specifically, 'Astron.html' to find it reasonably directly [go here: https://friendsofthevigilance.org.uk/Astron/Astron.html ]. Save it in your browser's favourites, and it's there to use both on line and off line. Its landscape front page fits nicely on a tablet.
Astron might appear initially overwhelming. For that reason I've attached a block flow diagram file of the de facto standard Intercept Method of sight reduction. I've used the diagram myself to support taster sessions based on Astron. Helps, hopefully, with the 'Can't see the wood for the trees' problem.
Gene, looking at Astron's front page, there is a 'Planner' tile among others along the bottom. Hit this and and you have an excellent resource for pre-setting your sextant before attempting a star sight.
Good shooting
