After a little delay, I have finally written an illustrated blog post on making mercury amalgam mirrors here: https://sextantbook.com/?s=mercury Thanks to all those who led me to a description of the process, which is really quite straight-forward.
I hope it will not give rise to too much heart searching about exposure to trivial amounts of mercury metal.
