Greetings List,
About 10 or more years ago, I purchased a handheld
prismatic "Sight Master" compass which was manufactured by a firm called
"Sisteco" from Finland. This is by far, is the best handheld compass that I have
ever owned. It is carved out of a block of aluminum and therefore robust;
it is easy to sight with, and has tritium gas illumination. The
compass itself is still working fine, except the illumination part has faded
away.
It appears that Sisteco is no longer in operation.
I've seen similar models advestised by Brunton and Silva but I have yet to
see a prismatic type compass with the tritium gas illumination.
My question to the list is: does anyone know where
I might send this compass to, to have the tritium gas recharged? I
suspect that like everything else made nowadays, I will end up having to throw
it away and buy a new one, but I am fundamentally opposed to this
practice.
Any advice or assistance would be
appreciated.
