    Hi Francis

I'm not an expert on Non Directional Beacons ( NDB ) but know a bit.  Old technology but dependable. Picked up by an Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) in an equipped airplane and the needle on the ADF points toward the beacon. Nice if the beacon is at the airport but more complicated if not. Messy if you are trying to locate something away from the beacon and there is a crosswind. Messy at other times as the needle is disturbed by lightning. As with many flying aids, they send out a  morse identifier code as in the attached image.  The dots and dashes are printed on the chart as in the upper right corner of the enclosed scectional so the pilot does not need to know code to confirm that he, or she, is homing on the correct navigational aid.

An airport, pilot, or possibly an online sectional chart could help you identify the beacon from the code identifier in the US. I'm sure there is an equivalent in the UK.

    Regards, Noell
