No, not the rock classic from Deep Purple... Rather, the heavy smoke from Eastern Canada forrest fires that circulated over the lower Great Lakes a few weeks ago. For a while, the ground level visibility was only 3-4 miles and the sky was a grungy orange-brown color. The sun was visible but quite fuzzy. I was curious whether the smoke had any influence on refraction, or if it just diffracted and diffused the light? Unfortunately, it was past sunset before I could get my gear and make it to a natural horizon. The low pressure zone moved out and the skies cleared before I had a chance to make an observation. Any thoughts?
From the local news, I may get another chance as the fires are still burning.
