Using your sextant, you will probably unable to see the Moon until it partially overlaps the Sun. After this happens, you can measure the distance to the far limb, and process it as a normal lunar. If in your location the eclipse is complete, it will be much easier just to time the beginning or the end of the full phase. It emcompasses Greenland, Canada, the US (except Hawaii), Mexico, and more.
