From the sound of it, there was a similar type of thing put out during WWll by Harold Gaty, called The Raft Book. You can still find it on Ebay every now & then.

I just reread experiment in survival by George Sigler. I have been looking for a copy of his Solargram. I can only find a ref to it in an add in google books. Anyone know of a source?
