A few years ago the rising of the Pielades (sp?) in NZ became a public holiday. This year the holiday is on the 20th June (today). It is known as Matariki. Outside it is freezing cold and the sky is covered in white stuff. I am sitting inside watching reruns of Midsommer Murders (unfortunately the cousin, not the original Barnaby). I have also watched an episode of New Tricks. David P may know wahat I am talking about.
I believe that there are several definitions to the start of winter. One of these definitions is the Solstice i.e. tomorrow. Although days will soon start to get longer unfortunately we have several months of "winter" weather to look forward to.
