A few recently spotted sextants.
The first image is from the recent BBC War of the Worlds production which tried to be faithful to the era of the original novel. The sextant is blatantly just a "tech thing" sitting on a table. Like the recent War of the Worlds, the next film is also set in the late 19th century. The pair of images are from a movie version of a Jules Verne novel. That's Maurice Chevalier in the background. Wilfrid Hyde-White is taking sights in fog so thick you can't even see the walls of the soundstage... After looking through the sextant, he announces there's a storm coming. Um, no, that's not how it works! But when you figure out the production company that made the film, you'll realize they weren't much concerned with technical accuracy.
