Hello everyone,
I read some articles in Spanish, and although Jorge Juan studied astronomy, none of the articles mention anything work or research related to celestial navigation.
He was born in Spain in 1713
Joined the Spanish Navy when he was 18 years old.
In 1734, he joined the French expedition to Ecuador to measure the meridian arc at the equator line in Ecuador. It took seven years to complete the study.
In 1748, he was sent to England to better understand the Royal Navy latest technological advances.
In 1757, he founded the Royal observatory in Madrid, it is now a museum.
His last project was to determine the distance between the earth and the sun.
He died in 1773.
