Earlier this year I chanced upon a charity shop which had cornered a supply of NASA 500-piece Star Constellation jigsaw puzzles (made in China of course), so I bought a couple at £5ea. I’m not sure about the validity of setting what looks like a Moonscape (or a Back Lot in Hollywood) against a very basic 360-degree cylindrical projection of the Celestial Sphere, but the pieces are reasonably thick, and strangely for a jigsaw puzzle, you’re supplied with a full-size plan of the puzzle to both refer to and, if you wish, make it on.
I’ve finally got round to making it and found it entertaining but rather demanding with just white dots and lines to join up. Having the drawing to make it on helped a lot. Did I learn much about the constellations? Well, it reminded me of the reality of constellations I’d heard of but never studied, but after a month, the mind images are already beginning to fade.
