Frank,
I started on my own beach ball globe but, after messing up twice, with permanent marker, I got frustrated and bought an inflatable globe and marked it up. I had the terrestrial/celestial lines already in place. It's pretty accurate if you want to look down from the stars and see the various countries also. I blew it up a year ago and it's still inflated.
Your warning about venturing outside the universe didn't register and I made it looking in. That wasn't too bad but, when I started contemplating rotating the heavens for date, UT, local time and somehow either re-marking their position or moving the longitude lines under my marks, I decided I'd rather do them one at a time on paper.
i also decided I should have bought a Russian Star Globe when they were $300. They're $900 now.
Regards, Noell
