Seems a reasonable approach to trimming mass and volume, but there's only a fleeting mention of sensing the horizon / gravity---in a celestial-navigation article that probably should have been given more emphasis.
The star tracker could actually help discipline the IMU, Laine says.
The gyro part of it, yes, unless you're tracking very close objects.
