Thanks Brad. I stand corrected! People started discussing lightning strikes as a logical reason for cel nav back up. Typos probably due to increasing dementia/ arthritis in fingers!

Hello Francis

Er *motto! Boy Scouts must be able to spell before they can navigate.
And now I believe I am officially off topic. So is EMP on electronics. Or EMP on Mechanisms. Or Tinfoil, hat or not. Your sextant? Valid question. A direct hit would be bad. Still not navigation.

Thanks Bob,
That is brilliant!
I suppose Frank is right in that these are very unlikely scenarios, but hey! It is fun to be prepared!(Boy Scouts moto?). Ultimately, I just enjoy cel nav in all its excentric forms. I don't think we need to justify it with these doomsday scenarios but it is still fun. I doubt whether any of us will ever need to rely on cel nav for survival. Statistically highly unlikely. Enjoy anyway! (but use the mark 1 eyeball when close to land!)
