Bob,
Have you made any progress on this project?
I wanted to make one for myself, and decided the most cost effective way to make a high quality version would be laser cutting/engraving using these guys - https://www.ponoko.com .
I've spent some time reworking your layout to mimic a K&E style SR and changed all numbers and text to a "monoline" version to optimize laser time. The laser width is about .15 to .2mm which should make nice clean lines and text. I plan on laminating/screwing white acrylic for the stator base, slide, and cursor parts, and engraving on clear for the cursor window.
The ponoko site has instant quoting, so I can estimate pricing with different cut patterns. I have ordered a small test to see how well the scales look on 2 types of acrylic - should see something in a couple weeks. Once I get the tests back I'll be able to figure out final layout.
All the work is in Illustrator. If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to post working files.
