    Stellarium for Celestial Practice
    From: Brooke A

    Frank suggested to I use Stellarium to pick a known LAT/LON, pretend that LAT/LON is my DR, then conduct a Polaris + 1 (star) or perhaps a noon sun sight as a celestial practice.  For a Polaris + 1 exercise that my LAT is pretty close but my LON is about 1.5 degrees of arc off on average (not good).   Maybe my calcs are off and will come back to that.  But meanwhile could use some help from others who have done this;

    Do you change the basic Stellarium settings in some way for atmosphere, height of eye etc. so that my measurements are not introducing things I am not aware of?

    Have you found Stellarium to be accurate enough for this kind of exercise?

    Other things you have learned along the way that make the use of Stellarium useful for practicing celestial?

    Many thanks in advance.
