Stellarium and the heavens in the 17th century

Dear group, Does anyone of you know Stellarium (http://www.stellarium.org/) and how accurate it is for long gone years? According to Stellarium on September 23rd, 1623 (Gregorian calendar), Polaris had a right ascension of 00:26:32 and a declination of +87�16'41". Is this correct? I did check the solar eclipse as mentioned by Flamstead the Philosophical Transactions, number 55, page 1099 (1669). He predicted it to be on April 9th, 1670, at 7:03pm (LON: 0�06'W, LAT: 52�57'N). After correction for the Julian calendar (10 days) I did see the solar eclipse on my screen. So it seems to work fine, but your opinion is much appreciated as well as other recommended software.
