    Success in Sun sights
    From: Samuel L

I've finally figured out how to get a good Sun sight reduction and a resulting good fix.

The solution was mostly to get a new calculator- a Casio fx-300 something-or-another.

Degrees, minutes and seconds are entered just as they normally appear.

So far I've done 12 Sun sight reductions and have gotten a fix within a few miles of where I am. Most of the slight inaccuracies of the Hs and resulting Ho's are probably that I'm using an AH (used Diesel motor oil- really black) and have to work fast because the AH oil ripples with even a slight breeze. Maybe using a thick, but liquid, grease would work better?

Doing a sextant sight reduction, when you first are learning how to do it, is harder than filling out a tax return.

Thank you for all of your help.
