Greetings from the southern hemisphere on the day of the summer solstice. The dec of the sun is currently S 23° 26'. In about seven hours it will be at its southern maximim of 23° 26.1'. It is cloudy today and I have a commitment this afternoon so I may have to wait another year for a summer solstice sight (-;
At my lat the sun will reach its maximum altitude of 73° at about 1318 (-13). I use an AH so that is of no use to me. According to a phone app the solstice will be at approximately 23:44 so a sight at the actual solstice is also impossible. The Moon sets at 14:07 so a solstice moon sight is yet agoin impossible.
The sun will be on the prime vertical (E) in about 24 minutes but the cloud seems to be getting thicker so a sight at that time is very unlikely.
